To get around this, you could implement something similar to what I have done: I use a 6030f MFP with 5 trays - the 5th holding coloured paper for faxes. In the drivers, try not to use the 'auto select tray' option.Īnother thing you could try is check to see if Tray 1 is set for "Any Size", "Any Type" (of paper) - the printer would always look at this tray first for anything that would be printed!

HP LASERJET 6L PRINTER USER'S MANUAL DRIVERS
Quick question - which set of drivers are you using? If you are not using UPD then I would suggest you try using this, and setting a default Quick Setting to Tray 1. Priscilla brought me here to see if I could chime in with something useful.

Any tips or suggestions on how to get that stubborn driver removed? So I believe the key is getting that driver removed so that it can obtain the correct, non-corrupted copy of the driver from the print server. If I go into Print Management, the printer does not exist in Print Management, nor can the driver be removed from there, because it insists that the driver is in use. If I try to remove the printer from Devices and Printers (it's pushed out via a GPO), it gives an error saying access denied, unable to remove device. The problem only affects the computers in the computer lab, which were all re-imaged at the same time with the same build.

I can print to the printer with absolutely no errors from my own laptop. Here's my reasoning for why I believe it's a driver issue. The firmware on the printer is up to date and has version 2300366_378467 from Sinstalled and is still shown as the most up-to-date version on HP Support website. (I am the network admin Chris referred to by the way) So far my solution has been just to put a sticky note on the printer to tell the students how to redirect the job to tray two and then manually changing the default settings back to the way I want them.Īnyone have any ideas on why the default settings might be resetting on their own?ĭon't worry, we have no intention of replacing the printer :-). Then at other times, the default tray switches to tray one and despite it being disabled, it still attempts to print from tray one and asks for paper to be added to that tray. It seems to be completely random, and it'll reset the paper type to letterhead which is the type used for tray one, and it'll ask for that type of paper to be put into tray two. I have no idea what sets it off, it's not at a certain time of day, it's not a regular intervals, and it's not when the computers are restarted. The printer defaults for some odd reason like to reset themselves at random times. So far what I've done is I've gone into the printer properties and disabled tray one, then I went into the printer defaults and set it automatically choose a tray which would always be two since one was disabled and I set the paper type to plain. We don't want to use tray one at all, and only want the printer to print from tray two.

The printer has two trays, tray one is manual feeding and tray two is auto. Here at my workplace we have an HP LaserJet M4555 MFP for our computer lab for the students to print at.
